Neighborhood Delray apartments in Detroit area are widespread and available for people seeking to live in a diverse, affordable community.

The Delray neighborhood is situated in the southwest part of Detroit and is bounded by Historic Fort Wayne, Interstate 75, the Detroit River and the River Rouge. The neighborhood's industrial history is can still be seen in the steel mills of nearby Zug Island and along the river banks. It's physical separation from Detroit is reflected in Delray's former status as an incorporated village until 1906, when Delray was annexed into Detroit.

Delray had a high number of German, Hungarian and Polish immigrants who left their homelands and found work in the nearby factories. It was affectionately known as "Garlic Town" for the enticing aromas of food wafting from homes and restaurants. Today the neighborhood still has a few remaining restaurants and taverns that reflect its early history. Delray Cafe continues to serve up cultural staples such as chicken paprikash and no visit to Delray would be complete without dropping into Kovac's Bar for beer and a bite the owner's famous chili.

The name "Delray" comes from a Mexican village and the neighborhood is located near Mexicantown, where family-owned restaurants and shops spark a grassroots economy and promote Hispanic culture. Delray's Roberto Clemente Academy, an elementary school, is named for the Puerto Rican who became baseball's first Latin American Hall of Fame member. Detroit Southwestern High School, known for its outstanding tradition in boys' basketball, is rooted in the Delray community.

Delray apartments are located in a community geared to younger people. The average age in Delray is 28, compared to 31 in Detroit as a whole.

When you rent an apartment in Delray, you'll be near some of the neighborhood's landmarks, such as the Delray Tower, the last interlocking train tower in operation. Woodmere Cemetery on West Fort Worth Street is the oldest and largest cemetery in the area and has beautiful marble monuments and restored mausoleums. Finally, take a walk down South Street to witness the majesty of the past at Holy Cross Hungarian Church. Built in 1905, the restored church boasts vaulted ceilings, frescoes, and locally manufactured stained glass windows depicting Hungarian saints.
